The Captive Maiden Book Review

Hello everyone!
We hope you all had a great Christmas and are enjoying the holiday season! We have been meaning to post a review on The Captive Maiden for quite some time, but because of all the busyness and hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, we hadn't found the time to do so. Finally, here is the review of the long-awaited The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson.

Gisela has always dreamed of a happily-ever-after fairy tale life for herself, but ever since her Father died, those hopes and dreams have quickly faded away. Now she is forced  to work for her evil step mother, who makes her life miserable. When Gisela meets the duke's son (her childhood lover), Valten, he immediately captures her heart. After she hears of a ball he is hosting, Gisela absentmindedly promises to attend. But because of certain circumstances, Gisela doesn't know if she can sneak past her cunning stepmother and stepsisters.  At the event, Valten is mesmerized by her beauty and he too falls deeply in love. Danger wants to destroy the relationship they had started to build and it threatens to harm them and those they care the most about.

The Captive Maiden, based on the classic Cinderella tale was a bit of a disappointment for us. We had high hopes for this story, but to our displeasure, it was much like the rest of Melanie Dickerson's novels from her fairy tale series. Though it did have a few suspenseful scenes and heartwarming moments, it was a bit dull and typical. We still suggest giving this novel a try just to finish off the series and see how you like it yourself. The Teen Book Blog gives this book a  3/5 stars. Like we noted to before, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't incredible either.

The Silence of Murder Book Review

Hope has always known that her brother was different, not crazy- just special. So when she finds out her brother is the prime suspect for murdering the beloved Coach Johnson, she is shell-shocked and in denial about the whole crime. Her only choice is to fight for her brother's life in court. She teams up with Chase, the sheriff's son, and TJ to find out who the real murderer is. Around her, her world is in chaos with threatening phone calls and a suspicious white pickup truck. Hope must discover who the real killer is before it's too late.

Dandi Daley Mackall has beautifully weaved the true message of hope in a very suspensful story that captures the readers attention from the very first page. Pins & Paperbacks rates this novel a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The characters had a lot of depth and the mystery was well thought out. We enjoyed the suspense and the author's direct writing style. Each sentence was crafted into a wonderful work of art.

Sketchy Behavior Book Review

Kate Carter doesn't want to be known as a celebrity. This small town girl enjoys witty remarks and drawing. Because of her impeccable artistic abilities, she catches a murderer-by drawing a criminal profile in art class. The students were asked to sketch a man based on verbal physical attributes. Kate works together with the police and ends up famous overnight. But with the drawing comes trouble, when the killer's buddies threaten this young artist. Danger is lurking in the shadows and Kate wonders if she'll ever be safe again.

Erynn Mangum catches the reader's attention from the very first page, enlightening the mystery with sarcasm and humor. This page turner will keep you up late into the night. It is an inspirational story filled with hope and life lessons for us all.

Sketchy Behavior is definitely a worth while read. The Teen Book Blog gives this novel a 4/5 stars. It was entertaining, yet held a deeper meaning. We recommend this to teens ages 10 to 14.
